Robotics Engineering vs Automation Integration

Robotics engineering and automation integration are related but different. Learn how each supports industrial automation projects.

Robotics engineering and automation integration are closely related, but they are not exactly the same.

Robotics engineering focuses on the technical design and application of robotic systems. This may include robot selection, motion planning, tooling design, safety review, simulation, programming support, and system layout.

Automation integration focuses on connecting different machines, controls, sensors, software, and equipment into a working production system. An integrator may install and configure robots, conveyors, PLCs, vision systems, and other equipment.

In many projects, both are needed. Robotics engineering helps determine what should be built and how it should function. Automation integration helps install and connect the system so it works in the real production environment.

Some companies provide both services. Others specialize in one area.

If a business is early in the planning stage, robotics engineering may be needed first. If the equipment has already been selected and the goal is installation, automation integration may be the next step.

Understanding the difference helps businesses hire the right partner at the right stage of the project.
