Pole Loading Analysis for Telecom Attachments

Learn how pole loading analysis supports telecom attachments, aerial fiber, broadband expansion, utility safety, and make-ready engineering.

Pole Loading Analysis for Telecom Attachments

Pole loading analysis is an engineering review used to determine whether a utility pole can safely support existing and proposed attachments. It is commonly required for telecom attachments, aerial fiber, broadband expansion, cable systems, and small cell equipment.

Before a telecom provider can attach new equipment to a pole, the pole owner may require documentation showing that the pole can handle the additional load.

Pole loading analysis may evaluate pole height, pole class, pole material, span length, existing utility attachments, proposed telecom attachments, wind loading, cable tension, guying, clearance requirements, pole condition, and safety factors.

If the pole cannot safely support the proposed attachment, make-ready work may be required. This can include moving existing lines, adding guy wires, replacing poles, or changing the proposed design.

Pole loading analysis is especially important for aerial fiber and telecom projects because unsafe attachments can create reliability, safety, and liability issues. Telecom companies, broadband providers, utilities, and engineering firms use pole loading analysis to support safe network deployment and reduce construction delays.
